Abstract

In the light of various efforts to fight food insecurity brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, political turmoil, inflation, and worsening climate change, the potentials of advance technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and remote sensing have been largely explored not only for innovating and increasing farm productivity but also in improving agriculture and fishery statistics. This paper will present the Philippines Statistics Authority’s conduct of the Pilot Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) in 2021 and the use of AI, remote sensing, and earth observation data for object detection, mapping, and count/area estimation of mango trees, coconut trees, palay, corn, sugarcane, fishponds, fishpens, and fishcages in the census data validation.
