I am looking forward to welcoming you to Ottawa in July 2023!

Statisticians have never been more relevant to helping solve the problems of the world than they are today. And it’s more important than ever that statisticians connect with each other, talk to each other, and learn from each other. This is why I want to see you at the next World Statistics Congress, at the Shaw Centre, in Ottawa, Canada, in 2023.

In past years, the International Statistical Institute has brought together thousands of delegates from more than 120 countries in these meetings. After our successful Virtual Congress in 2021, we look forward to meeting friends and colleagues from around the world in person.

We will have a rich scientific programme that includes invited sessions, contributed sessions, short courses, tutorials, and time to meet friends and colleagues. We will be attracting academics, mathematical statisticians, data scientists, applied statisticians, official statisticians and statisticians from the world of business. You don’t have to be a statistician to benefit from the WSC – anyone who uses or has an interest in statistics or data science will find the sessions of value.

The Shaw Centre in Ottawa is a space that will be welcoming to the entire statistical world. There will be opportunities for informal networking, and special events for Young Statisticians, and for Women in Statistics, and for ISI Members.

If you are interested in making good decisions using data; if you want to share your ideas with your peers; if you want to learn from others – this is the place that you will want to be.

So we look forward to seeing you at the World Statistics Congress in July 2023 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Canada.

From the ISI Director

Welcome to the website for the 64th ISI World Statistics Congress to be held 16-20 July 2023 in the magnificent Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Canada. The Shaw Centre is in the heart of Ottawa, near the Rideau Canal; an inviting place to take a stroll or hike, or relax on one of the many terraces on the Canal’s banks.

In ISI, we are proud to work closely with our Strategic Partners, Statistics Canada and the Statistical Society of Canada, to build a memorable Congress in 2023. Both partners have a long history of excellence in statistics and play a prominent role in the international statistical community. Their support for our Congress will add value. The Congress will offer you an excellent scientific programme, as well as social events and the joy of meeting new and old friends.

We will also join forces with the Ottawa Tourism in offering an attractive tour programme to our participants, their partners and families. You may be interested in planning a trip before or after the WSC, a perfect way to explore of Canada’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The partnership with Ottawa builds on the Ottawa-The Hague partnership and could not be better represented with the WSC return to The Hague in 2025. The WSC 2023 logo represents a tulip, a flower that also connects Ottawa and The Hague. In 1945, the Dutch royal family sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Ottawa in gratitude for Canadians having sheltered the future Queen Juliana and her family for the preceding three years during the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands in the Second World War. In the following years, each year Juliana sent another 10,000 tulips and Ottawa became famous for its tulips. Nowadays, the Tulip Festival in the spring attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. The tulips won’t bloom in July, but the spirit will remain. This story and more wait for you to be discovered when you will join us for the WSC in Ottawa.

We count on your active participation to make the statistical science flourish.
