Abstract

This presentation will provide an overview of the different governance mechanisms and tools recently established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in order to exercise proper oversight and control over the use of alternative data sources for statistical purposes. In particular, this author will discuss the improved data governance adopted by the Organization in 2022, the recent revision of FAO Statistical and Data Quality Assurance Framework, the adoption of a new internal standard on the acquisition and use of big data for statistical purposes and the promulgation of other relevant policies.
