Making Sense of multiple frameworks in the era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – their overlap, their divergence and communicating coherently
Category: International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS)
Abstract
The EU has developed and is still developing indicator frameworks using partly the same indicators but serving different purposes. These include the EU SDG indicator set, resilience dashboards, an integrated framework for wellbeing, statistics for the European Green Deal etc. To communicate the sometimes diverging messages to external stakeholders constitute a challenge which requires a clear identification of the objectives of the monitoring exercise as well as a transparent and easily understandable assessment methodology. Different monitoring levels, i.e. SDG monitoring at EU level versus monitoring of national SDG strategies, further complicate the situation. Eurostat will present how they are dealing with these challenges and which lessons they have learned.
