Abstract
This paper presents a rank-index statistical method for preferentially rank-ordering and selecting subjects vis-à-vis their responses or scores in a screening test or severity of a condition of interest. The proposed method easily enables one to estimate in the form of a spread sheet the median and other tiles of the distribution. Statistical methods that could be used to as much as possible break any ties in the subject’s responses or scores and reflect the effect of such ties on subject’s relative tanks are developed. Test statistics are proposed for determining any significant differences between subjects in their relative responses or performance rates and for pair-wise comparisons of these rates. The proposed method is illustrated with some data.
