Abstract

Overview of the progress and challenges as Stats NZ, New Zealand’s NSO, moves further towards a register based statistical system. An update will be provided on Stats NZ’s legislative context with the passing of the new Data and Statistics Act 2022, enabling factors within the New Zealand authorising environment, and progress towards indigenous data governance arrangements.

The presentation will also cover updates and progress on existing base registers, including challenges around the generation of a Statistical Person Register. A recent proof of concept with another government agency to explore a property-centric Statistical Location Register data model will also be profiled.
