INSURGENCY RISK MANAGEMENT: ADVANTAGES, MEDIATING FACTORS AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

The precarious nature of insurgency in Nigeria calls for concern. Hence, the adoption of risk management to the highly militarized approach engaged by the government in tackling the menace, offers glimmers of hope to the distressed situation for women and children in violently compromised and occupied regions and communities. This paper explores the advantages of adopting risk management strategy in the military tactical operations against insurgency and terrorism, evaluates the mediating factors and challenges in attaining sustainable peaceful society for women and children in Nigeria leveraging on qualitative information from both primary and secondary sources, including interviews, journal articles, newspapers and magazines, official reports of the United Nations, government and non-governmental organizations, UN International Organization on Migration (IOM), displacement tracking dashboards, etc. Findings from the study and theoretical underpinnings lean towards strategy rethinking. Thus, the study aligns with the adoption of a basket of methods that will attack insurgency from the prism of risk management milieu.
