Abstract

The intensification of digitalization of human society brings both opportunities and challenges for national statistical offices (NSOs). On one hand, the application of modern information technology empowers official statistics by providing enriched data sources, effective techniques and new releasing channels. On the other hand, demands for official data is rising in both quantity and quality, and NSOs are facing more competitions from many other data producers. In recent years, the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) has strengthened important works such as accounts of digital economy, statistical clouds program and application of big data. This presentation will briefly introduce the classification and monitoring of core industries of digital economy, the implementation of statistical cloud program and the application of e-commerce data to retail sales statistics in China. In the future, NBS will continuously strengthen the relevant work, and hope some of the successful cases will be of benefit to the NSOs of other countries.
