Abstract

The shortage of highly trained, well-skilled data analysts to serve Government, business and industry in the 4th Industrial Revolution, is well documented and is an international phenomenon. Stakeholders in the developing countries accordingly put pressure on their universities to graduate more high level qualified Statisticians - however, these universities typically have insufficient academic staff to produce the level of output to satisfy the ever increasing demand. Though this is an international phenomenon, more efforts are required on the part of statistics educators in developing countries to collaborate more effectively with experts in the related disciplines and industry to revise, develop and offer more postgraduate courses. This talk highlights the South African initiatives to enhance regional collaborations in order to satisfy the data skills demand of business and industry.
