Abstract

Web mapping applications can serve to provide timely statistical insights to support decision making. Their strength resides in the capacity to integrate timely statistical data from various sources with geospatial information. This then provides an accurate visual tool that supports the assessment of a particular situation.

For the Canadian 2021 Census of population, new Web mapping applications were designed to provide greater spatial and geographical context that supported decision making for the implementation of targeted communication, collection, and recruitment activities.

For example, one of the tools was used to efficiently manage collection activities in areas where access to specific geographic areas was restricted due to events such as flooding, fires or travel restrictions related to COVID-19.

This presentation will discuss the challenges and lessons learned resulting from the development and implementation of these tools as well as potential future developments.
