Abstract

Due to various constraints, achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa has been a significant challenge despite significant progress made in some areas by some countries. This presentation reviews the challenges and constraints encountered in achieving the SDGs in Africa, focusing on issues such as poverty, inequality, conflicts, governance, and infrastructure. We analyse the causes of these challenges and constraints, highlighting the specific needs for data, political will, international cooperation, and innovative solutions to overcome them. It explores the role of various stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, the private sector, and development partners, in achieving the SDGs. Finally, the presentation concludes by providing evidence on data-driven solutions and big data and statistics could help overcome these challenges and constraints to accelerate progress towards sustainable development in Africa
