Abstract

Cities are engines of economic growth for many countries, yet the way we define cities globally has traditionally varied from country to country. In this paper, we present early lessons, opportunities, and challenges of applying the degree of urbanization methodology for the global monitoring of a cluster of urban-related SDG indicators and targets. Findings will show the benefits and tools largely available for countries to apply the degree of urbanization with minimal support from the global partners. Key findings on connecting the global methodology to local policy and decision-making processes will be shared.
