Abstract
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) coordinates the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2020 (WCA 2020). As a part of its monitoring role of national censuses, the FAO received regular updates from member countries on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the ongoing agricultural census activities. This presentation is the latest assessment of the extent to which agricultural censuses were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and identifies best practices for minimizing its impact. The review of censuses in 155 countries and territories shows that COVID-19 affected censuses both in developed and developing countries. The review also shows that the least affected countries had improvements in national statistical systems, used various ICT solutions and data collection modes, and sourced some census data from administrative registers.
